Compressed gas is a state of substance in which a gas has been compressed and stored in a container or cylinder. Gases are compressed in this state to occupy a smaller volume than they would at normal atmospheric pressure. This compression enhances the gas’s density and energy content.

Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) refers to a mixture of hydrocarbon gases and vapours, primarily Methane in gaseous form, created by the decomposition of animal and plant waste and cleaned and compressed for use as an automotive fuel and industrial application.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refers to mixes of hydrocarbon gases and vapours, primarily Methane or a suitable blend of Hydrogen and Methane in gaseous form, that have been compressed for use as an automotive fuel and in industrial applications and includes Compressed Bio Gas.

The gases can be of type as follows:

Non-flammable and non-toxic/ Non-flammable but toxic/ Flammable but non-toxic including other than the LPG/ Flammable and toxic.

Any person desiring to obtain a license for the filling and storage of compressed gas has to make an application in Form ‘C’ to the PESO department as per the Gas Cylinder Rules, 2016. The applicant can apply for the below licenses:

  1. To fill compressed gas in cylinders (Form E)
  2. To store compressed gas in cylinders in a storage shed attached to the filling premises (Form E and F)
  3. To store compressed gas in cylinders in a storage shed which does not belong to the filling facility (Form

Procedure for Obtaining a Gas Filling and Storage License in Form E and Form F in India:

A license in Form ‘E’ or ‘F’ given or renewed under The Gas Cylinder Rules, 2016 for the filling or storage of compressed gases must remain in force until the 30th day of September of the year in which the license is granted or renewed, subject to a maximum of ten years. Every license or approval granted under these rules must be subject to the conditions indicated in them.
